• Nani Roma prevails in stage two
• Orlando Terranova finishes runner-up
X-raid started with a one-two into the Desafío Ruta 40, held in Argentina. In their MINI ALL4 Racing, the pairings Nani Roma (ESP) / Michel Périn (FRA) and Orlando Terranova (ARG) / Paulo Fiúza (POR) proved to be just unstoppable. Yesterday’s first stage had to be cancelled by the organisers due to adverse weather conditions as the helicopters couldn’t be given the clearance to take off.
The second stage could be contested – and it proved to be a real challenge: Roma needed 4:42 hours for completing the 350-lilometre stage, thus being 2.5 minutes faster than his Argentinean team-mate. At the end of the day, the driving skills were the most important ability, in today’s stage. The route was extremely technical. At the beginning of the stage, on the way into the mountains, the competitors had to cope with extremely hard track surfaces, while the final part of the stage was contested on rocky and partly very narrow roads.
“The stage was extremely tough,” said winner Nani Roma. “The navigation wasn’t too difficult but when it comes to the driving, the route was really challenging, today. It was a really long day. After all, we had to wait for 1.5 hours before we finally could hit the road. Due to the weather, the helicopters once again didn’t get the clearance to take off, at first. But fortunately, the special stage hadn’t to be completely cancelled as it had been the case yesterday.”
