Ruta 40: Regresso à América do Sul

- Two MINI ALL4 Racing vehicles in Argentina

- Four Argentineans to contest their home race

Almost four months after the end of the Dakar Rally in January, the MINI All4 Racing is going to return to Argentina this week. The two MINI ALL4 Racing vehicles involved will be raced by the Argentinean pairings Orlando Terranova / Bernardo Ronnie Graue and Lucio Alvarez / Sebastian Halpern who already are looking forward to contesting their home event. For X-raid, the appearance in Argentina represents a major challenge as the Pharaons Rally in Egypt is held in this week and many of the vehicles that contest the FIA World Cup rounds are still en route.

The Desafío Ruta 40 isn’t part of the FIA Cross Country Rally World Cup but reminds of the Dakar Rally. Some sections even take the competitors across the same regions as the season highlight in January did. This fact has attracted several competitors to Argentina. All the bivouacs will be erected at cities located around La Rioja, not far from the Andes.

The event will be kicked off in the evening of the 18th of May when the cars cross the podium in Catamarca. On the following day, stage one will be contested around the Argentinean city. On 20th May, the second stage will take the field to Tinogasta, located some 1200 metres above sea level. The third stage, on 21st may, will take the competitors around another loop, with the service staying in the bivouac. On day four, the field will be racing from Tinogasta to Chilecito, a village the Dakar already made several stops at. And the final stage will be contested from Chilecito to Villa Unión. When they cross the finish line, the teams will have covered a total of 2825.41 kilometres, with the special-stage mileage adding up to 1539.49 kilometres.

Pharaons Rally: Quatro MINI All4 Racing no Egipto

- Penultimate desert rally on the FIA calendar

- Five days across the Egyptian desert

Following two events held on the Arabian Peninsula – both won by a MINI ALL4 Racing – the season now is continued on the African continent. Egypt’s Pharaons Rally is the fourth event of the 2015 FIA Cross Country Rally World Cup and the last desert rally before the Rallye du Maroc that will be held in October. Currently, three MINI ALL4 Racing crews hold the top positions in the championship standings and all the three are going to contest the event in Egypt. Leader Vladimir Vasilyev is followed by his MINI compatriots Nasser Al-Attiyah in second place and Erik van Loon holding the third position. The fourth MINI ALL4 Racing will be raced by Adam Malysz together with the French co-pilot Xavier Panseri.

On 12th May at El Alamein, not far from the seaport Alexandria, the competitors will start into stage one. The bivouacs will be erected at Tibniya, Farafra and Sitra and on 16th May in Cairo, the teams will cross the finish line. The five stages mainly will feature sand, dunes and Fech Fech. In addition, the navigation also will represent a true challenge.

A mix that suits Nasser Al-Attiyah and his French co-driver Mathieu Baumel particularly well. In the previous two desert rallies, the pairing proved to be virtually invincible and consequently, they also are regarded as Pharaons Rally favourites. The Russian pairing Vladimir Vasilyev and Konstantin Zhiltsov delivered on a particularly consistent level, in the season to date. Instead of focusing on defending their FIA Cross Country Rally World Cup title, the Russians are using the 2015 season as the best possible preparation for the 2016 Dakar. Nonetheless, they have been anything but slow, in the events contested so far, with their VRT-MINI ALL4 Racing.

Van Loon and his compatriot Wouter Rosegaar somersaulted in Qatar and consequently, they were forced into early retirement. In this incident, the MINI ALL4 Racing once again demonstrated its outstanding stability: both driver and co-driver could get out of the car unharmed and will be able to contest the Egyptian event without any problems. Meanwhile, Adam Malysz wasn’t too happy with his performance in Qatar and hopes to be able to make better use of the MINI ALL4 Racing’s potential in the Pharaons Rally.

Classificação do Desafio Polaris ACE 570 (após a 1ª prova)

1º Ricardo Megre (JL Racing), 5 pontos; 2º Filipe Ferreira (Garonda), 3; 3º Alexandre Freitas (JL Racing), 2; 4º Joana Lopes (JL Racing), 1.

Al-Rajhi, Varela e Dabrowski são os Pontas-de-Lança da Overdrive no Pharoans Rally Challenge, no Egipto

· Defending Pharoans Rally champion Al-Rajhi keen for repeat performance

· New centralised bivouac at Tibniya and five revised selective sections planned

Overdrive Racing has sent three Toyotas Hiluxes to the Pharoans Rally in Egypt and Yazeed Al-Rajhi, Reinaldo Varela and Marek Dabrowski will represent the Belgian team at the fourth round of the 2015 World Cup for Cross-Country Rallies. The event starts out from El Alamein on May 12 and finishes in Cairo on May 16.

Overdrive Toyota drivers currently hold fourth, fifth, eighth and 10th places in the FIA Drivers’ Championship standings. Overdrive team director Jean-Marc Fortin realises the importance of achieving podium finishes on the third of this year’s long-distance cross-country rallies, where the team secured a stunning outright victory last year.

A cruel mechanical failure within sight of the finish of the recent round of the series in Qatar robbed Saudi Arabian Al-Rajhi of second place and a crucial haul of points. He and his German co-driver Timo Gottschalk know that they must try and repeat last year’s winning performance if they are to close the gap on Russian Vladimir Vasilyev at the top of the FIA World Cup points’ standings.

The pair boosted their confidence no end before the Egyptian event by taking an emphatic victory in last weekend’s Rally Jeddah in Al-Rajhi’s native Saudi Arabia.

“Losing out on second overall in Qatar was disappointing for everyone in the team,” said Al-Rajhi. “But that is rallying and we must look forward. Timo and I won here last year and we are confident that we can push hard again and challenge for the top step of the podium.”

Brazilian Reinaldo Varela holds fourth in the championship after his third place in Qatar and he and fellow countryman Gustavo Gugelmin will be aiming for another impressive and consistent finish in the second of the V8-powered Toyotas.

Pole Dabrowski and navigator Jacek Czachor crew the third Team Orlen-backed car and hold fifth in the championship after three rounds. A drive shaft failure deprived the Pole of a podium finish in Egypt last year and dropped him to seventh overall, but Marek showed a useful turn of speed in Abu Dhabi and Qatar in the spring and will also be looking for a podium finish in Cairo.

“We know what we have to do in Egypt and that is a repeat of the performance we had last year with the win,” said Jean-Marc Fortin. “Reinaldo and Marek are inside the top five in the championship and can look to adding to more points towards the FIA World Cup, but we want to try and take the outright victory again. For sure, Yazeed will be pushing for this. Some of the stages are slightly different, but we know the terrain is much the same and we will concentrate on making sure we give a good performance.”

After scrutineering and administration checks at the Mediterranean seaport of Mersa Matruh, 240km west of Alexandria, on May 10 and 11, the event - which has been planned under the patronage of the Automobile Touring Club of Egypt (ATCE) - will run over a modified route through similar terrain. There are five demanding selective sections in the timetable and the rally utilises a centralised bivouac near the Baharija oasis at Tibniya.

The opening special of 228.76km includes a series of sand dunes and runs from the historic WW2 town of El Alamein to Tibniya on May 12, before crews tackle a 343.02km loop section around Tibniya via Sitra on May 13.

Stage three is another loop stage of 284.95km and returns to the bivouac via Farafra on May 14. The penultimate selective section on May 15 leaves Tibniya at 07.00hrs and includes 319.85km of competition through further stretches of treacherous sand dunes in the Egyptian desert.

The final stage of 339.29km follows a winding desert trail to Cairo for the ceremonial finish at the Pyramids in Giza on May 16, although the exact distances of the competitive stages are subject to last minute changes and the onset of any inclement weather conditions.

FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Rallies – positions after round 3:

1. Vladimir Vasilyev (RUS) 123 pts
 2. Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah (QAT) 60 pts
 3. Erik van Loon (NLD) 52 pts
4. Reinaldo Varela (BRA) 48 pts
 5. Marek Dabrowski (POL) 42 pts
6. Miroslav Zapletal (CZE) 36 pts
 7. Harry Hunt (GBR) 32 pts
8. Tapio Suominen (FIA) 30 pts
 9. Adam Malysz (POL) 28 pts
10. Yazeed Al-Rajhi (SAU) 24 pts , etc

Equipa mantém o segundo posto no campeonato

Classificação final no Rali TT Vinhos Carmim

1º M. Barbosa/M. Ramalho Mitsubishi Racing Lancer 3h48m22,07s
2º J. Ramos/V. Jesus Toyota Hilux a 52,84s
3º H. Oliveira/N. R. Silva Nissan Navara a 1m16,65s
4º N. Matos/F. Serra Opel Mokka Proto a 5m27,26s 5º P. Ferreira/J. Monteiro Toyota Hilux a 7m01,15s

RESULTADO POSITIVO NUMA PROVA QUE JÁ VENCERAM

• Excelente comportamento do Bowler Proto
