Every November, Dakar community is looking forward to dive into the entry lists to check who's going to have which number at the upcoming Dakar Rally. During the 2018 edition, on the Ford Ranger of Tomas Ourednicek and David Kripal we will see #340, with that the driver is absolutely delighted, since this number has a very special meaning for him…
Let’s turn back time to the first edition of Dakar Rally in South America, in January 2009. Back then, a small private team from Czech Republic was preparing for the start, with a very experienced driver, Miroslav Zapletal, and his co-driver, a very excited rookie called Tomas Ourednicek. For him practically everything was new, since the Dakar was only his fourth motorsport event as competitor altogether! The two worked so well together that at the finish line in Buenos Aires they celebrated a 7th place (still best result for a Czech crew in cars) overall and 3rd in their category. And the number on the door? Well, that was #340…
November 2017. Another Czech crew is preparing for the Dakar, an experienced driver called Tomas Ourednicek and a rookie co-driver, who started his racing career in April with a victory in Morocco Desert Challenge: David Kripal. And the number on the door? Well, that will be #340…
No one knows what will await Tomas and David in the dunes of Peru in the first week of the Dakar. No one knows what will happen in the high altitude stages of Bolivia. No one knows what will the tracks of Argentina hold for them. All we know is that they have prepared for this challenge all season long and will do their best in all those 14 stages. The rest is a matter of luck, as always in the Dakar, but having this memorable number again can certainly be taken as a good omen.
