• ASO press conference in Paris with further details
During the 2016 Dakar in Argentina and Bolivia, the oil refining company AXION energy will be the naming partner of the AXION X-raid Team. The team will be represented in the legendary marathon rally by the four MINI ALL4 Racing pairings Nasser Al-Attiyah / Mathieu Baumel, Nani Roma / Alex Haro, Orlando Terranova / Ronnie Graue and Mikko Hirvonen / Michel Périn.
Sven Quandt, Team Manager: “We are very pleased to co-operate with AXION in the 2016 Dakar. The coming edition of the event once again will represent a huge challenge for man and material. But with Nasser, Nani, Orly and Mikko we can rely on an extremely competitive driver line-up.”
During the press conference on 18th November, 2016, Dakar Rally organiser ASO revealed further information on the route. Nasser Al-Attiyah, Mikko Hirvonen, Nani Roma, Mathieu Baumel and Michel Périn were on site to represent the AXION X-raid Team. Traditionally, the press conference is used to reveal the exact distance of every special stage. Furthermore, Dakar Director Etienne Lavigne and Race Director Marc Coma disclosed several innovations for the 2016 Dakar.
Mikko Hirvonen: “I just can’t wait for starting into my first Dakar Rally. The more stories I’m told about this legendary event, the more my pleasant anticipation is increasing. I can’t say a lot about the route as I’m lacking the experience to make an assessment but I will discuss it with my navigator Michel, in the coming days.”
